City Advisory Boards and Committees
The City has established various Boards and Committees which are advisory to the Commission and carry out specific functions on behalf of the Community. Members are appointed by the City Commission unless otherwise indicated. The Boards and Committees within the City are as follows:

Ad Hoc Parking Committee
7 members. The committee acts in an advisory capacity to the City Commission facilitating the development of a recommended City-wide parking plan, including specific parking plans for designated areas of the City, evaluation of use of parking structures and long term leasing of locations for parking.

Beautification Advisory Board
7 members. Acts in advisory capacity to the City Commission relative to improved appearance and beautification of the City.

Charter Review Committee
7 members; 1 alternate. This is an ad hoc committee appointed every eight years by the Commission to review the City Charter. Once appointed, members serve until a report is rendered to the City Commission, within six months. The next Charter Review is scheduled for 2011.

Civil Service Board
7 members; 3 elected by Police, Fire and General Employees respectively; 4 members appointed by the City Commission; 2-year term. This advisory board adopts regulations and rules of conduct regarding employees and hears cases related to the regulations.

Code and Permitting Advisory Committee
7 members; This committee reviews various codes and ordinances of the City pertaining to code compliance of properties and assists with presenting City improvement programs to the Community.

Education Committee
11 members; This committee advises on educational matters and issues of Importance to the Community.

Historical Preservation Board
11 members; This Board serves as the central repository for City historical data, advises the Commission on historical matters and recommends designation, regulation and administration of historical and related resources within the City.

Human Services Advisory Board
10 members; 1 alternate. Acts in an advisory capacity to plan and coordinate an efficient community program of health, welfare and general social services.

Marine Advisory Committee
7 members; This committee advises on Marine matters.

Parks & Recreation Advisory Board
15 members; Acts in an advisory capacity and makes recommendations regarding the operation, acquisition and maintenance of parks and recreational facilities.

Planning & Zoning Board/Local Planning Agency
7 members; 1 alternate. Acts in an advisory capacity to the City Commission regarding changes to the zoning code and the land use plan; makes recommendations regarding applications for conditional uses and variances; development review approvals for major development; applications for all plats of subdivision and resubdivisions of land.

Police & Fire Pension Board
5 members; 2 elected by police and/or fire departments, 2 members of the City Commission, and 5th member chosen by other four; 2-year term. General administration and responsibility for the operation of the Retirement Pension Trust Fund for the City’s Firefighters and Police.

Public Transportation/Flood Mitigation Advisory Board
7 members; 1 alternate. Acts in an advisory capacity to City Commission in the planning, development and implementation of mass transit and flood prevention programs for the City. (Meets quarterly).

Unsafe Structures Board
(S. FL Bldg. Code, Sec. 202) 9 members of specific disciplines: appraiser; architect; attorney; broker; electrical, general and plumbing contractor; engineer and social services. 3-year term. Hears and determines appeals from actions and decisions of the Building Official.
