Water Distribution Services

Overview

The Water Distribution Services section installs, maintains and repairs the main water lines that transmit the City's drinking water. If water main work is scheduled, the area which will be without water service for a period of time is given ample notice of such.  The Water Dstribution Services section is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the City's water infrastructure, which supplies water to all City residents and businesses. The City's distribution system is comprised of 72 miles of various-sized water mains, service lines, valves, water meters and fire hydrants.

This section is also required to repair, replace, and maintain City-owned parking meter systems.  The sections’s responsibilities include responding to citizens’ complaints concerning water distribution, repair, replacement, and upgrade of all City owned water lines and ensuring sufficient water pressure is available for fire protection.
The Water Distribution Division also installs water meters and irrigation meters for a fee. Water service projects involving contractors and or plumbers should coordinate with the Water Distribution Services section.

Water Lines MaintenanceWatermain

At times, water main lines may crack or break and emergency shutdown of water is required without advance notice. Another emergency which may occur is a service line break. If the water has been shut off and your meter is still running, it is your responsibility to contact a plumber to locate the break which is not on the City's side of the line.

Fire Hydrants

This section also installs fire hydrants as needed.  The purpose of this section is to provide and maintain water flow and fire protection throughout the City.
