Although, each station is staffed 24 hours a day, the best time to visit is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Yes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in conjunction with AAA developed a program to ensure that child passenger safety seats are properly installed. Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue has trained technicians, on site, to help install new car seats and ensure that existing ones are installed properly. Yes. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) would be of great interest to you. CERT Teams are a network of community teams trained by professionals to take care of themselves in the first few days following a major disaster. With basic skills training, these teams will be able to prepare their homes and neighborhoods before a disaster and immediately assist those in distress once the danger has passed. The program is absolutely cost free, includes a smoke detector and battery, as well as installation. No. Applicants must meet the following requirements. They must be a Florida licensed Paramedic; or be currently enrolled in the last semester of a Paramedic program, and obtain a Florida Paramedic license prior to appointment. Likewise, applicants must possess a Firefighter Certificate of Completion issued by a fire academy located in the State of Florida or a Firefighter Certificate of Compliance issued by the State of Florida; or be able to obtain the above within 6 months of appointment. The Firefighter Minimum Standards course requires that the applicant be a minimum of 18 years of age with a high school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent. Applicant must pass a physical agility test and a basic skills test prior to acceptance into the Fire Academy. The Firefighter minimum standards course is 450 hours (12 weeks full-time or 6 months part-time) in length and requires that applicants pass a written assessment and a practical assessment prior to certification. This Minimum Standards Certification Course for firefighters is a mentally, physically, and emotionally challenging program that includes extensive classroom and practical elements.

Topics include Fire Behavior & Extinguishment, Ropes & Knots, Ladders, Fire Hose & Water Supply, Building Construction, Fire Cause, Fire Prevention & Education and Firefighter Safety. In addition to the above topics of learning, candidates are required to participate in physically demanding training exercises that take place on a daily basis. A “C” or higher must be maintained throughout the training. Once completed, candidates are given a written and practical examination for certification.

Becoming a Paramedic has two phases, the first phase is becoming a State Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and the second phase is becoming a State Certified Paramedic. The EMT course is one semester (4 months) in duration and is a pre-requisite for Paramedic Training. The course is divided into four parts, Lecture, Lab, Hospital Clinical and Field Clinical. Students must maintain a “C” or higher average throughout the course. The Paramedic course consists of four consecutive semesters, which are divided into Lecture, Lab, Hospital Clinical and Field Clinical. Lecture, Lab and Clinicals will be conducted each semester with the fourth semester being dedicated to mostly Field Clinicals. A “B” or higher average must be maintained throughout the Paramedic training. Each student will be evaluated by Instructors during their Lab and Hospital rotation and by Paramedic Preceptors during the Field rotation. Upon completion of the course, the student must pass the State written exam with and 80% or higher for certification.

Yes, the City offers a Community Mentor Scholarship Program. The mission of the Community Mentor Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance and technical support to individuals from the community who are interested in a career in Fire and Emergency Medical Services. The Program provides tuition, books and supplies for the completion of Basic Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic certifications. Fees are established by ordinance and are applied accordingly. When the application is submitted, the applicable license tax, an application fee and an inspection fee will be collected. Camp is held for children between the ages of 6 and 12. When registering for camp, parents must provide proof of residency (if claiming residency status) and a birth certificate for their child. Six-year olds must have completed kindergarten in order to register for camp; report card must be provided indicating graduation.

Refunds must be requested in writing at least one-week prior to the start of the recreation program and are subject to the approval of the Director of Parks and Recreation. If approved, a full refund less a $5 processing fee will be issued.

Personnel reviews each application to ensure that candidates meet the established minimum requirements. If minimum requirements are met, the application is forwarded to the hiring manager for further consideration. The hiring manager will schedule interviews with selected candidates. Candidates are ranked through the interview process and employment offers are made to the candidate who is the best fit for the open position.
